Fireflies Under The Stars

It was cold,
A cold stagnant night.
He sat there,
a picture of perfect solitude,
completion in quiet contemplation.
No dream, no aspirations of the mortal kind,
but that of a higher law, a greater power.

What a fool! I thought,
to sit in the midst of this night of restless souls,
with the warmth of summer clouding the minds of men.
What fool would tangle himself in the trappings of his own mind?
I mused as he walked into the night,
and followed only to find him gone,
taken by the shadows that dwell in darker places.
I found myself walking alone, chasing the mist of midnight,
wondering if that was what I must,
to reach for the spirit that dwelt in my past.
Then I realised that along,
I was alone, with fireflies under the stars.
